Trompe L'oeil

Meaning 'to trick the eye', Trompe L'Oeil is the art of deception. The visual trickery of 3 dimensions is created by applying colours for shadows and highlights.

I painted this hall ceiling on paper and then glued it on. There are 10 panels around this centre piece.

Bathroom doors decorated with shells.

Crown of thorns in St Thomas' church. This is about 80cm across and is painted above a large crucifix.

This plain door looked out of place against the real panelled walls, so I painted the panels on.

This small shrine in St Thomas' looked too plain, so I copied the other overdoor panels to create a stone carved arch.

A bit of fun in this bathroom!

Quirky Trompe L'Oeil stone carving and lock.

Full view of the ceiling.

Large fossil stone.
