St Thomas Church

We have been deeply involved in the re-ordering of St Thomas church in St Helier, Jersey. This has been a remarkable project which has covered all aspects of Artizen, including gilding, decoration, Trompe L'Oeil, woodgraining, restoration, murals and pattern work.

Before, St Thomas' could only be described as drab. The grey interior made the church cold and uninviting.

The ceiling was cleaned and the ribbing painted in red, yellow and green. These colours were taken from the original encaustic tiles.

Decorating the East wall with a leaf design.

The finished East wall

The bosses had never been painted and were barely visible from 60ft below. We embellished them with decoration and gold leaf.

This navy blue ceiling of the Chapel of our Lady of Fatima was gilded with stars

All of the carved stone work has been gilded.

This 4 part stencil pattern was achieved using gold paint.

The freise has been picked out with cream paint and gold leaf.

The capitals around the font have been gilded

The walls behind the tabernacle were stencilled in gold paint, with a four part stencil.

Parts of the original tiles were missing.....

So I painted them in!

Panels over the sacristy doors.

Trompe L'Oeil panel over the Polish Chapel door.

Trompe L'Oeil crown of thorns.

My favourite view of the project.

The Tabernacle and East wall.

The organ pipes were dull and uninspiring.

The completed transformation .

The pipes are situated above the West porch and are seen on leaving St Thomas'
